Progress With Unity Podcast #195: Sheff Wed and Norwich reviews, Fulham and Wolves previews

Despite the fact some football might have been happening, I am going to hijack this PWU flavour text in the name of pastries once more. Ohh yessss, it's time to pander to those well-worn stale-otypes!

Wigan-Norwich pastry review 2017

Good: Free [brand name removed] pasties outside the East Stand. There were plenty remaining when your flavour text writer arrived at 7.30pm.

Bad: No pasties (or anything at all) left at half time in the concourse. Apparently the caterers were fired on the spot.

Solution: Re-open Sharpy's as a gourmet pasty restaurant. C'mon Dave, ya know it'll be worth it!

Progress With Unity Podcast #194: Man United review, Sheff Wed & Norwich previews

That's it, lads, show's over! Now that afternoon at the Theatre of Broken Dreams has been forgotten like those 1,001 astounding ideas we think up just before we fall asleep, you can also forget about Wigan Athletic for another four months.

...Or maybe not - you Sly Sporks Snooze guys will be back on Friday evening, won't you? Well, I hope you have your Wigan Pier and Wigan Casino stock footage ready. Oh, and don't forget Uncle Joe's, Heinz spaghetti shapes and meat and tater pies!

Never mind, just roll that tape labelled 'Transfer Window Nonsense', would you? Yeah, I know it's the same one we play twice every year but with the player names digitally altered. You do realise we're on a budget here?

Progress With Unity Podcast #175: Sheff Wed and Norwich reviews, Fulham preview

Where's Michael Fish when you need 'im? I remain convinced that Manchester is covered in a perpetual cloud that follows you around, Addams Family style. But thank goodness it's a relatively small cloud spanning just the city centre, or we may have been watching the Norwich Beamback from the DW Stadium Jordi Gomez Memorial Swimming Pool.

...He's Wigan's greatest ever diver, you see.

Progress With Unity Podcast #118: Blackpool and Norwich reviews, Leeds preview

Image used with absolutely no permission from Colorsport.
(Yeah, I'm feeling adventurous this week!)

Ack, typical. All we have to talk about for weeks is yet another Wigan Athletic loss, then when two wins finally come along we have more talking points than we ever could have dreamed!

With an emotional Mr Whelan hanging up his Blankety Blank chequebook and pen, the panellists discuss life before, during and after Big Dave's reign of glory at Wigan Athletic.

Also on the agenda is the issue of fan ownership as Latics United rep Alan Moore drops in to chat about independent supporters groups and... well, the usual off-the-wall nonsense. I knew it, we should never have recorded in a public house, with its access to alcohol!

Progress With Unity Podcast #117: Charlton and Cardiff reviews, Blackpool and Norwich previews

It's actually going upwards, but they cropped the pic incorrectly. (Courtesy NASA)

I don't like this month's pre-occupation with a certain unlucky number. We just had Friday 13th and there are 13 league games to save Wigan's Championship season. I ate thirteen Holland's pies at last night's game and have taken precisely 13 trips to the bathroom since 1300 hours.

On the other hand, thirteen is my father's lucky number, and he's also a Wigan Athletic supporter. On that basis, I reckon we can expect 13 wins between now and 13 May 2015. Hey, this Championship stuff is easy, isn't it?

Progress With Unity Podcast #109: Norwich review, Watford preview

This pic was requested by the PWU crew. Merry Christmas!

The panellists are restless - some more so than others. My bottom, for one, spent the best part of 62 long recording minutes (including the naughty bits that were cut out) shifting around in its chair. Like Latics, it struggles to find a comfortable position, and I think it might be after Christmas before it settles on a long-term resting place.

Wait, did I really just compare Wigan Athletic to my backside? Jim Royle, eat your heart out.

Changing managers is like having a leg amputation: it may hurt at first, but soon you'll feel nothing. But then you realise you can't take free kicks half as well as you could, and retire to a Cornish farm to become a professional pirate. In other words, it'll all work out OK in the end, so don't worry - the Twitterati will do enough of that for you.

Progress With Unity Podcast #39 - Norwich review, QPR preview

A rather chirpy edition of the Progress With Unity Wigan Athletic Podcast this week, in more ways than one. But enough potentially tenuous canary puns and on to business as usual before the inevitable pre-Wembley madness that's bound to escalate in the coming days. Among the burning questions: would a Latics win end QPR's fight for survival?

Progress With Unity Podcast #38 - Norwich preview, yet more Wembley build up

A blank week offers the chance to regroup, though there is still much for the Progress With Unity Wigan Athletic Podcast team to discuss. Naturally, Wembley is on everyone's mind, but we must set feet firmly on planet Earth and concentrate on the week-to-week grind. As they say, keep going with yer head down.

On air this week: Barry, Dan, Gareth, Paul and Greg.
