Any Previous? Latics v QPR

Latics have met Queens Park Rangers on 20 occasions previously. It’s fair to say we don’t have the best of records against the Hoops.

Our first meeting came in the old League Division 2, the third tier, in the 2001/02 season, a 1:2 defeat at the then named JJB Stadium on 22nd September, Tony Dinning giving the Latics a 42nd minute lead only for QPR to equalise on the stroke of half time with an Andy Thomson goal.

A Ged Brannan own goal in the 90th minute saw all the points go to QPR.

The return fixture at Loftus Road in February 2002 once again saw the Latics squander a lead and be thwarted in the final minute of the game, Jason De Vos putting us in front with 20 minutes to go only for Kevin Gallen to fire home the equaliser with virtually the last kick of the game.

Our last two games played at the DW Stadium, both in the Championship, have ended in victory for the Latics, a 1:0 win in July 2020 and a 2:1 win in February 2019.

Saturday Support At The DW Stadium

What a couple of week’s for the staff and players at the Latics. The none payment of wages, though now rectified, placed a lot of strain on all connected to Wigan Athletic.

The players turned out and played for our club against Burnley, Coventry and Watford before finally having their pay arrive two weeks late last Friday.

This Saturday gives the fans a chance to show support and gratitude to the squad, we have a home game at the DW Stadium against Queens Park Rangers.

For those who want to get involved there will be a ‘Fans Rally’ before the game to greet the players as they arrive at the stadium.

Our club, our players, let’s show solidarity.

It is planned that we congregate at the corner of the East and South Stands, next to the players car park, around 12:45 – 1pm, the players are due to arrive shortly afterwards.

Saturday is also Latics Community Trust’s ‘Believe in Communities’ Day, there are quite a few events taking place pre-game outside the South Stand, also in the South Stand Bar – Supporters Club – there will be a choir singing and entertaining supporters from 1:30pm.
