Progress With Unity Podcast #199: Blackburn and Birmingham reviews, Bristol City preview

When searching for M People's proverbial hero, you were looking at Omar Bogle, weren't you? Or maybe Gabriel Obertan, perhaps even Mickey Jacobs or Bilbo Grigg.

But Danny Burn? Nah, nobody expected him. The man everyone hated until the real scapegoats made themselves known. The man whose "feet can't keep up with his knees". The man with the Marty McFly haircut (above).

So for once, I'm going to say it without fear of my flavour text writing career being destroyed: I am a Dan Burn fan and proud of it. It is up to you, society, to deal with that.

Progress With Unity Podcast #171: Blackburn and Birmingham reviews, Forest preview

In any game of football, there are three possible outcomes: home win, away win, draw. In mathematical terms, this gives you a 1/3 chance of winning.

But mathematics is, of course, nonsense. If it were so reliable, we wouldn't need a stat man to correct its mistakes.

Cue Fantasy Football style chants of 'Statman! Statman!' from the gallery

However, the troublesome law of averages seems to have applied itself to Latics' first three games of the season, which have included one win, one loss and one draw.

As tribute, we now present a special edition of PWU Win, Lose or Draw! And heeeere's your host - Barry Slattery...

Progress With Unity Podcast #170: Bristol City and Oldham review, Blackburn and Birmingham preview

Did the season start yet? Did we lose on Saturday and get dumped out of the League Cup on Tuesday?

Did Will Grigg snatch the Golden Boot? Did Wigan Athletic effortlessly ride a flaming Segway through (almost) all terrified defences on their way to the league title?

Did they beat Preston 5-0 and Blackburn 8-0? Did that freshly-painted open top bus pass through Hindley and Higher Ince on its way to Believe Square?

No? Then wake me up when it all happens, and not a second later. Cheers!

Progress With Unity Podcast #113: Blackburn review, Huddersfield preview

The Big Draw. (c)Bundesarchiv

Question for you all: when were you this happy with a draw? Was it when King Edgar Davids pulled that magical ball from the velvety bag of wondrousness? When you won a tenner on the Lotto last Saturday? When you, er, drew the curtains to block out the glaring sun?

Those Progress With Unity blokes, by contrast, are never happy. Only when someone brings us free cake and biscuits do we crack smiles through mouths crammed with cream. Which is not that often, hence the return to Charlie Brooker mode of late.

But you'll be pleased to hear that this week's edition is the most positive so far this year. A juicy Championship point does tend to have that effect on you, I find!

Progress With Unity Podcast #112: Birmingham review, Blackburn preview

Time for more Latic yakkety yak. (c)Pongratz

They say February is the most depressing month of the year... but the thoroughly depressed PWU panellists beg to differ. Having stared at the Ceefax league table for far longer than is healthy, they are all too aware that Wigan have slipped from the second page to the dreaded third. You know things are bad when you have to wait at least 25 seconds for your page to load... still, it gives you time to go and make yourself a sandwich or download the latest edition of the Progress With Unity Podcast. (Hint, hint!)

Progress With Unity Podcast #97: Blackburn and Huddersfield reviews, Ipswich preview

That can't be McManaman because he's shooting! (Badum tish)

With all this talk of missed penalties, you might think this is a podcast about the England national team. But stuff international matches, because the aftermath is invariably disastrous for Wigan Athletic, regardless of who was or wasn't on last week's plane/bus/trike to Interglobia!

Never mind, for the multimedia televisual extravaganza that is Monday Night Football beckons. I would enjoy the game on telly, but, er, they won't let me take my CRT TV through the DW turnstiles.

Progress With Unity Podcast #96: International review, Blackburn and Huddersfield previews

It's chicken flavour, I promise.

We ought to stop saying we have nothing to talk about during international week, because we invariably find something that piques our interest to such an extent that the remaining 25 minutes of allocated (internet) airtime are exhausted analysing every minute detail of it. I won't say who got us riled up this week, but he may be known for his shorts. And I'm not talking about Walt Disney (again)...

Progress With Unity Podcast #87: Blackburn review, QPR playoffs preview

Please welcome a brand new addition to the Progress With Unity Podcast team, one Ali 'Ballet' Al Habsi. You may well have heard of him - he's the guy that escorts chickens from Ewood Parks in his spare time. He's also going to be keeping two clean sheets on Friday and Monday... we hope.

Right, I think it's time to dive shoulders-deep into the mud, don't you?

In the studio this week: Barry, Gareth, Rob, Dan, Mick and Paul T (and Ali Al H)

Progress With Unity Podcast #86: Blackpool and Birmingham reviews, Blackburn and playoff previews

No, wrong type of playoff, fool! (c)2O at Wikipedia

Ladies and gentlemen, we did it. Now let's go out and do it again... three times! Wigan Athletic's near faultless FA Cup record stands us in good stead for this, our first playoff venture in over a decade. We've almost forgotten what it's like... spoiled, we are. Kids today, eh?
