Meet The Ref - Latics v Watford

Latics entertain Watford at the DW Stadium on Saturday, Leam Richardson's men will be looking for their second home win of the season whilst the Hornets are still seeking their first away win, the referee for the game will be Denton official, Matt Donohue.

The former PE Teacher was appointed to the National List of EFL referees at the start of the 2018/19 season and subsequently to the Select Group 2 of Ref’s the following summer, obviously a high flyer.

Previous Games

Donohue has taken charge of five Latics’ games previously, all in the Championship, four came in the 2019/20 and the other one was earlier this campaign, our away day at Norwich back on the 6th August.

Donohue’s has 2 Watford games under his belt, both came in the 2020/21 season away at Barnsley and Birmingham, both in the Championship and both were decided by just one goal, Barnsley winning at Oakwell, Watford winning at St Andrews.

In his previous 4 seasons in the EFL, Matt Donohue has taken charge of 141 games, issued 474 yellow and 28 red cards, pointing to the penalty spot on 26 occasions.

So far this season, Matt Donohue has been in charge of 10 games, 9 of those in the Championship, his last game was the Preston 0:2 Stoke Championship fixture on Saturday, 15th October.
