There have been 29 meetings between Wigan Athletic and Cardiff City down the years. The Latics having the better of things with 12 wins to the Bluebirds 6.
The first meeting came in Division 3, during the 1982/83 season, we travelled down to Ninian Park on the 11 September ’82 losing 3:2. We drew the return fixture 0:0 at Springfield Park in April 83.
Of the 14 league games played between the two sides up here in Wigan, we have only tasted defeat on two occasions, 0:1 on the 31st March 1997 and another 0:1 loss on the 24 February 2015.
Our last meeting came in the Championship in February 2020, a 2:2 draw at the Cardiff City Stadium, two Kieffer Moore goals giving us a share of the spoils.
Classic Encounters
The last meeting between the two sides at the DW Stadium was an exciting affair, it came on the opening day of the 2019/20 campaign, Latics, who were trailing at half-time came firing out of the blocks at the start of the 2nd period, Michael Jacobs and Josh Windass grabbing a goal apiece before former Latics striker Omar Bogle to level things up with 20 minutes to go, Lee Evans though pulled a stunning effort out the box to give us a great start to the new season.
