Any Previous? Wycombe v Latics

Latics and Wycombe Wanderers have met 17 times down the years, a fixture without a great deal of history but none the less, some very entertaining games.

The first meeting came in the 1993/94 season. A crowd of just 2,388 watched us play out a 1:1 draw in August ’93 at Springfield Park, this was followed up later in the season with a 0:1 away win on a cold February day at Adams Park, Wycombe at the time were flying at the top of the Division under Martin O’Neill, whilst Latics were fighting for Football League survival with Kenny Swain in charge.

Our last meeting was our first home game of this season back in August, a great occasion to be back at the DW Stadium watching football following what had gone on the previous 12 months with both the Latics through administration and life in general with the pandemic.

Callum Lang had given us the lead early in the 2nd half, in fairness we should have been four goals to the good but paid the penalty for squandering gilt edged chances when Anthony Stewart equalised for the Chairboys in the 91st minute.

Latics – Amos; Darikwa, Whatmough, Watts, Power; Cousins, Naylor; Jones, Keane, Lang; Wyke

Subs – Jamie Jones, Pearce, Massey, Robinson, Aasgaard, Humphrys, Smith

Highlights - Latics 1:1 Wycombe Wanderers

Wycombe Wanderers Current Form

Wycombe currently sit 6th in League One with 55pts from 32 games, their recent form is, LLDDD.

Wycombe’s 16 home games so far this season in the league have brought 31 points from 9 wins and four draws, they have lost three times on their own patch, the latest of which came on the 29th January, 0:1 to promotion rivals MK Dons.

Those 16 home games have produced 29 goals for Wycombe and 23 conceded, both the for and against tally had a big boost on Saturday when they drew 5:5 with Cheltenham Town at Adams Park.

When Wycombe play there tends to be goals, they have been involved in 15 games so far this season where four or more goals have been scored, 15 players have scored for them this season and 5 have bagged four or more, with Sam Vokes leading the charts with 10 goals.

Player To Watch – Jordan Obita

28 year old left wingback, former Reading player where he clocked up 163 appearances in the Championship, joined Wycombe from his home town club, Oxford in January 2021.

Obita is enjoying a great season in League One, he has scored three goals and made seven assists from 26 appearances in all competitions this campaign. Fast, skilful and very tidy on the ball, Obita caught the eye at the DW Stadium back in August and he is a firm favourite with the Wycombe fan base.
