Any Previous? - Latics v Charlton Athletic

The two clubs have met 15 times down the years, things are pretty tight between the Latics and the Addicks with six wins apiece and three draws.

The first meeting came in the Premier League, back in August 2005 when we met at the Valley in the 2nd game of our inaugural season in the top flight. That ended 1-0 in favour of the Addicks, Darren Bent scoring the only goal of the game shortly before half-time.

We gained a little revenge in the reverse fixture in December 2005, following three extremely tough away games at Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United, we lost the lot, the Latics dusted themselves down and turned in a scintillating performance with Henri Camara grabbing our first Premier League hat-trick as we ran out 3:0 winners.

Of the seven games played between the clubs at The DW Stadium, Latics have won four, drawn one and lost two, our last home win coming on the 21st September 2019 in the Championship, two goals from Chey Dunkley securing the points, Latics team that day:

Marshall; Byrne, Dunkley, Mulgrew, Robinson; Morsy, Williams, Massey, Lowe, Jacobs, Moore.

Last season Charlton did the double over the Latics, winning both games 1:0, following our win at the Valley in August we have a chance to complete the double this time round.

Highlights - Latics 2:0 Charlton

Not the best performance away at Hillsborough on Tuesday, we missed Will Keane, couldn't get our formation right and were very disjointed from start to finish, one of those nights, but we still sit 2nd in the table with four games in hand on all the teams chasing us, not a bad place to be and I'm positive that supporters of all the clubs below us would take our predicament in a heart beat.

Topsey the cat made an entrance and hit the headlines as the Latics treated her with the 'Kerr' that she needed and Jason Kerr helped the injured feline off the pitch and into the arms of a steward.

Charlton Athletic on Saturday is the first of two home games in four days as the Latics look to cement their place in the automatic promotion spots. The Addicks have been in good form of late and it will be another stern test, but these are the games that we need to be picking up points in and an exciting encounter is in store.

Up the tics!
