Meet The Ref - Latics v Peterborough


We are back in League One action on Tuesday following our FA Cup exploits, Peterborough United will be the visitors to the DW Stadium, the referee will be Stafford based official, Ollie Yates.

Yates made it on to the National List of referees back in 2016, his first game coming in the League 2 meeting between Yeovil Town and Notts County on the 6th August.

 Previous Games

This will be the third Wigan Athletic game that Ollie Yates has been in charge of, both of the previous two coming in League One and both away.

2021/22 season we travelled to Plough Lane and grabbed 0:2 win against Wimbledon and during the lock down season an away defeat at Charlton by 1:0. Kell Watts, Tendayi Darikwa and James McClean ending up in the book, Keano and Max Power on the scoresheet.

During our administration season – 2020/21 - we travelled to Charlton and ended up losing 1:0, Keano, Tom James, Lee Evans and Gavin Massey all ending up in the notebook.

Ollie Yates was in charge of two Peterborough games last campaign, both in League One, their 2:3 win away at MK Dons in October and a 2:1 away defeat by Ipswich in December.

Since becoming a National List official, Ollie Yates has clocked up 190 games, issued 679 yellow cards, 26 reds and awarded 33 penalties.

Ollie Yates last game was the FA Cup 1st round tie between Hereford FC and Gillingham on Saturday, the Gills won 0:2, Yates awarded a late penalty for the away side and issued six yellow cards, all to Hereford players.
