Jason Jarrett
Jarrett started his career in Blackpool’s Youth Academy, making just four senior appearances - his debut in an FA Cup clash with Wigan in November of 1998 at Springfield Park, where they lost 4:3 to the Latics - before moving to Wrexham (long before they had their American Hollywood owners). With just one appearance there, in a 5:1 loss to Gillingham, he spent 2000 to 2002 at Bury before making the switch to Wigan Athletic for £75,000.
In his first season, Jarrett played in 45 games as Latics were promoted from the second division with 100 points. The following season, he made over 40 appearances again as Wigan Athletic finished two points outside the play off places in 7th behind Norwich City, West Brom, Sunderland, West Ham, Ipswich, and Crystal Palace.
Jarrett unfortunately suffered a broken leg at the start of the 2004/05 season, and to regain fitness he moved to Stoke City in the January on a short loan - which lasted three appearances before moving back to the Latics for the final three months of the season in which we won promotion to the premier league, with his final goal contribution being the assist for Ellington to score the third goal in the 85th minute.
His contract expired in the summer, he reportedly failed to agree a new 3 year deal due to being unhappy with the wage incentive scheme at the Latics - “my preferred option was to stay, but I’m not happy with the deal” - and so he moved on, this time to Norwich City who had been relegated from the top flight to the Championship, teaming up once again with Nigel Worthington, who was the manager to introduce him to senior football at Blackpool.
Overall, Jason Jarrett made 103 appearances for Wigan Athletic, scoring 3 goals, picking up 15 yellow cards, 1 red card, and enjoying 2 promotions.
