Latics and Blackburn have met 32 times in all competitions down the years.

 

The first four encounters all came in cup competitions as the Latics settled into life as a Football League club, we didn’t meet in the league until December 2005, though the majority of our fixtures (14), have come in the top flight.

The first meeting was a 2 legged League Cup tie back in August 86, we lost both 1-3 at home & 2:0 away, Alex Cribley scoring for the Latics in our home leg.

The last ten games have brought just two defeats, five wins and four draws, the last meeting was our first home win of this season and our last clean sheet.

Sunday 4^th March 2018, the top two in League One go head to head at Ewood Park in front of the TV cameras, despite going two goals behind the Latics respond like true champions to pull the game back round, Will Grigg ‘kneeing’ a Michael Jacobs effort over the line and Max Power’s free kick give us a share of the spoils and ultimately the title.

21 year old striker. Born in Manchester, Dolan came through the ranks at Blackburn, making his Rovers debut as an 18 year old in 2020.

Having already having clocked up an impressive 94 appearances since his breaking into the first team, the youngster is enjoying a good season, 3 goals and 4 assists to his name so far.

Meet The Ref - Blackburn Rovers v Latics

Latics travel to Ewood Park on Monday for a Championship fixture against Blackburn Rovers in what will be Shaun Maloney’s first game as Wigan Athletic manager, the referee for the match is Manchester official, Matt Donohue.

 

Matt Donohue

The former Denton PE Teacher was appointed to the National List of EFL referees at the start of the 2018/19 season and subsequently to the Select Group 2 of Ref’s the following summer, obviously a high flyer.

In his EFL career, Matt Donohue has taken charge of 152 games, issued 528 yellow and 29 red cards, pointing to the penalty spot on 28 occasions.

Previous Games

Donohue has taken charge of seven Latics’ games previously, three of which have come this season, Norwich away and Watford at home in the Championship plus the FA Cup 3^rd round replay against Luton a couple of weeks back.

Donohue last refereed Blackburn back in August, their 0:1 away win at Blackpool.

So far this season Matt Donohue has refereed 21 games, of which 16 have come in the Championship.

Operation Huddersfield

 Let's Make A Difference
 

Huddersfield Town at the DW Stadium on Saturday is the biggest game of the season so far, going head to head with an opponent in the relegation battle the lads need all the support we can give them.

It’s time to rekindle an old favourite.

In the build up to the game there will be a ‘Fans Rally’ to cheer the players as they arrive for the game and give them as much encouragement as we can, let them know that we are in this together and we are all pulling in the same direction.

Passion off the pitch builds passion on it.

Our club, our players, stand up and be counted, let’s make that difference.

It is planned that we congregate at the corner of the East and South Stands, next to the players car park, around 12:45 – 1pm, the players are due to arrive shortly afterwards.

If we can have the same impact as happened in the 2011/12 season then there will be no question that we will be staying up.

Saturday 11^th February the 11 year anniversary of the day we walked to Horwich for the Bolton game to raise money for Emma Hoolin’s treatment. 

What a successful day that was.
