Two wins in a row would be fantastic, wouldn’t it? The lads appear boosted by the takeover news and it was clear to see what Saturday’s result meant to the whole squad.
Previous
We’ve played Plymouth a number of times down the years from our first meeting back in 1982. The record is:
Won - 8
Drawn – 4
Lost - 9
Our last defeat against Plymouth was 17 years ago at the then named JJB Stadium, a 0-2 reverse. The Latics were sat top of the Championship but this was one of many results that season that saw us miss out on promotion to the big time.
Last time out we drew 1-1 at the DW back in October, we fell behind before half time when Ryan Hardie scored following a mistake in the Latics defence. The condtions really hindered things and was the main cause of the mistake between Jones and Pearce which led to the opener. Will Keane bagged the equaliser in the 69th minute in a game which was pretty even possession and shots on target wise.
Ones to Watch
Jephcott - From his 33 games this season he has a return of 18 goals and is pretty accurate with his shots - 74%. His strike partner Ennis is starting to find the net and are definitely two which need to be watched. Ennis got their only goal in a 2-1 defeat against Doncaster.
Grant - The midfielder has been instrumental in assisting the team with goals this season. Out of Plymouths 44 goals this season he has assisted 10 of them chipping in with 3 himself. It’s worth noting that him, Mayor and Moore all have a great passing accuracy. Like Grant, Mayor needs to be shut down or he could pose problems.
Plymouth Form - Won 1, Drawn 1, Lost 3
Doncaster 2-1 Plymouth
Northampton 2-0 Plymouth
Plymouth 4-3 Lincoln
Plymouth 0-3 Peterborough
Rochdale 0-0 Plymouth
There should be goals on Tuesday. Plymouth like to concede and the Latics are building confidence. An interesting result is the one at Lincoln. Here’s hoping they don’t find that form.
Former Latics - Lewis Macleod joined in the summer following his release at the end of his 1 year contract. After making 12 appearances at the Latics he has made 6 at Home Park.
Missing Personnel
Wigan will be without loanee Scott Wootton as he won’t be allowed to play against his parent club.
Plymouth will be boosted by the return of Sam Woods who missed the last game due to suspension. Tyreece John-Jules is still out with a hamstring injury
Opposition fan
Nothing to write here. We contacted 6 Plymouth Argyle fans to take part in the pocast, including one high profile fan, but none got back in touch. Maybe they’re running scared?
Prediction - PWU 1-2 Plymouth - Away win
