Massive game for the Latics tomorrow, the return of Paul Cook, he brings his Ipswich Town side to the DW Stadium, both clubs desperate for points for differing reasons. The man in the middle for the game will be, James Bell.
The Sheffield based official is in his first season as a referee on the National List, having graduated from the National League where he has had just the one season. Previously he worked as an assistant (lino) and ran the line at Championship level.
This will be young Jimmy’s second Latics game this campaign, having been in charge of our goalless home draw with Bristol Rovers back in November, he has yet to referee an Ipswich game.
Of Bell’s 26 games so far this season, ten have come in League 1, eleven in League 2, four in the EFL Trophy and one FA Cup tie. Following a flurry of cards, both yellow and red, in the early part of the season, Bell has settled down, his last seven games producing just one red and twelve yellows.
His last game was the League 2 clash on 23 March between Carlisle 0:1 Orient, no cards were issued to either side.
