Latics meet Burton Albion at the DW Stadium on Saturday in a fixture with a short league history.
Since Burton gained promotion to the Football League our two clubs have only met on seven occasions, with things definitely equal, two wins apiece and two draws, though we did meet in our non-league days, the last of those meetings coming in the FA Trophy back in 1972 and saw Latics record a 5:0 victory.
Since becoming a league side we have yet to beat Burton at the DW, in fact Will Keane’s 37th minute equaliser last April, was the first time we have scored a goal against the Brewers here in Wigan.
In the 1:1 draw played at the Pirelli Stadium back in April 2016 the
Latics took an 8th minute lead only to be pegged back 7 minutes
before half time by a certain Tom Naylor who took great joy in celebrating in
front of the traveling Latics support. What ever happened to Tom Naylor?
Memorable Game - Burton Albion 3:4 Latics
A proper bottom of the table scrap, 29 December 2020, what a game that was.
Behind three times only for Kyle Joseph to claw us back level on each occasion as the Latics youngster bagged his first senior hat-trick, Will Keane popped up in the 83rd minute to grab the decisive goal in a 3-4 classic.
