Meet The Ref - Sunderland v Latics

Keith Stroud

Latics are on the road on Saturday, a trip up the North East to face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, the referee for the game will be Bournemouth official, Keith Stroud.

The 53 year old started refereeing way back in 1988 and made his Football League debut in August 2004. Stroud was promoted to the Select Group 1 of officials and refereed the Latics away at Reading in the Premier League in 2007, unfortunately for Keith he was dropped back down to the Championship after just two seasons, being replaced by Kevin Friend.

 Previous Games

Keith Stroud has 15 Latics’ games under his belt, the vast majority of which have come in the Championship. Of those 15 games we have won just 3.

Stroud’s last Latics game was our 1:0 away defeat at Derby in October 2019, Graeme Shinnie scoring an injury time winner. Stroud was also in charge of our 2:3 home defeat to Ipswich Town in December 2016, awarding a penalty when Dan Burn had clearly won the ball, not only that but the challenge was also 2 yards outside the box.

Since becoming a Football League ref, Stroud has been in charge of 647 games, issuing 2,404 yellow and 120 red cards whilst awarding 150 penalties.

Keith Stroud’s last Sunderland game came earlier this season, has already been in charge of two Blackburn games this season, their 1:2 away win at Bristol City on the 6th August.

Keith Stroud has taken charge of 11 games so far this season, 8 of which have come at Championship level.
