Latics have met Queens Park Rangers on 20 occasions previously. It’s fair to say we don’t have the best of records against the Hoops.
Our first meeting came in the old League Division 2, the third tier, in the 2001/02 season, a 1:2 defeat at the then named JJB Stadium on 22nd September, Tony Dinning giving the Latics a 42nd minute lead only for QPR to equalise on the stroke of half time with an Andy Thomson goal.
A Ged Brannan own goal in the 90th minute saw all the points go to QPR.
The return fixture at Loftus Road in February 2002 once again saw the Latics squander a lead and be thwarted in the final minute of the game, Jason De Vos putting us in front with 20 minutes to go only for Kevin Gallen to fire home the equaliser with virtually the last kick of the game.
Our trips to Loftus Road have continually ended up in frustration, we have lost on our last five visits there, including the 2014 Championship playoff semi-final.
That was another game where we had taken the lead, James Perch scoring on 9 minutes, QPR equalised with a penalty on 73 minutes with Charlie Austin slamming the spot kick home, Austin then scored the winner in extra-time ending our promotion aspirations that season.
Classic Encounter
22 March 2003 was the first and last time that Wigan Athletic won at Loftus Road, the game came in the run-in to the Latics winning promotion as Champions and collecting 100 points along the way.
QPR were in 6th place in the table and vying for a playoff spot, Nathan Ellington’s 47th minute goal was enough to seal the points and consolidate at the top of the table.

QPR’s 7 home games so far this season in the league have brought 18 points, 4 wins, 2 draws and just the 1 defeat that came against Blackpool back in August.
In contrast the Latics form at the moment is LWLLWLL, though we have gained 13 points on the road winning 4 of our 7 away days.

27 year old forward, Lyndon Dykes is in fine goalscoring form this season for QPR.
Dykes joined QPR from Scottish club Livingston in the summer of 2020, having made his name north of the border, firstly with Queen of the South and then SPL side Livingston.
Born in Australia, Dykes is a full Scotland international and is an important part of the Scotland squad.
So far this season Lyndon Dykes has scored 5 goals, including 2 on Wednesday in QPR’s win over Cardiff.
