Meet The Ref - Latics v Cardiff City

We’re back at the DW Stadium on Saturday, Cardiff City are the opposition in a Championship fixture, the referee for the game will be Sheffield official, James Bell.

Bell has made a rapid rise to higher echelons of the refereeing fraternity having graduated from the National League in 2020, where he had just the one campaign, he has now been promoted to the Select Group 2 following two seasons on the National List.

Bell has four Latics’ games under his belt, including our pasting by Burnley earlier this campaign, of his four games in charge of the tics, three have come at home and we haven’t won one of them, time to change that stat.

 

In his three seasons since joining the National List, James Bell has been in charge of 77 games, issuing 234 yellow and 14 red cards whilst awarding 22 penalties.

Bell has just the one Cardiff game so far, that came in August last season in the EFL Cup, the Bluebirds suffered a 0:2 home defeat to Premier League Brighton.
