Meet The Ref - Latics v Reading

Latics are back at home on Saturday, Reading are in town for a Championship fixture, the referee for the game will be County Durham official, David Webb.

David Webb made his debut in the EFL taking charge of the Bury v Brentford League Two match back in August 2008, whatever happened to those two clubs? Now in his 15^th season, Webb has totalled up 496 games, issuing 1,344 yellow and 57 red cards, also awarding 77 penalties

David Webb’s first Latics game came in the Championship, back in September 2014, a 2:0 defeat away at Leicester, both Jean Beausejour and Ben Watson ending up with yellow cards.

44 year old Webb has previously taken charge of 16 Latics games, of which we have won 9 and drawn 4, losing just 3, a lucky ref for us? We will see.

The last time David Webb was officiating in a Wigan Athletic fixture was the goalless draw away at Barnsley during the lockdown, Latics defender Danny Fox being dismissed for, well nothing really, whilst Antonee Robinson only received a yellow for his Jackie Chan impression.

David Webb last refereed Reading away at West Brom last season, a 1:0 defeat for the Royals and they picked up 2 yellow cards.

 

Eight games so far for David Webb this season, five of which have been in the Championship, his last game was Wednesday 14 September, Norwich 3:2 Bristol City, no cards issued to either side.
