Meet The Ref - Latics v Blackburn Rovers

We are back at the DW Stadium on Saturday, the 3^rd Lancashire derby game so far this season, Blackburn are in town, the referee will be Isle of White official, James Linington.

Linington, has been refereeing in the professional game since the 2008/09 season and a Select Group 2 ref since the 2009/10 season.

 

 Previous Games

James Linington’s first Latics game came in the Championship, away at Yeovil, a Sunday game following our exploits in the Europa League, a trip to Russia where we had played Rubin Kazan just 3 days earlier, of course the Latics won the game at Huish Park courtesy of a Marc-Antoine Fortune 78^th minute goal.

Linington has been in charge of 11 Latics games in total of which we have won just 2 and picked up 30 yellow and 1 red card.

Since becoming an EFL Referee, Linington has clocked up a total 465 games – 250 of those have come in the Championship - in his career so far he has handed out a grand total of 1,440 yellow and 77 red cards, he has also awarded 118 penalties over the 15 seasons that he has been active in league football.

I think it is far to say that James Linington likes to give out a card or two.

James Linington has refereed Blackburn 8 times previously, the last of which came last season, a goalless draw away at Luton, Linington did dish out 5 yellows though. Ironically, Linington was the 4^th Official in our away win at Luton last Saturday.
