Meet The FA Cup Ref - Latics v Blackburn

It’s FA Cup time on Saturday and we have local rivals Blackburn Rovers in town for a third round tie, to make sure that this particular Lancashire Hot Pot doesn’t boil over is West Sussex referee, Tim Robinson.

Tim Robinson

38 year old Tim was appointed to the EFL referees list for the start of the 2012/13 season, taking charge of his first game between Southend United and Accrington Stanley.

He was the 4th Official at Wembley for the League 2 Play-Off Final between AFC Wimbledon and Plymouth Argyle in May 2016 and – as part of the PGMO development programme – Tim represented the PGMOL at the Dallas Cup 2012 and at the Nike Cup in China in 2012.

With 319 games under his belt, the former PE Teacher is now part of the Select Group 2 full time refs and spends the majority of his time in the Championship.

Robinson’s previously been in charge of four Latics games, his last one came in the 19/20 season, a home game against Birmingham when the Latics took the points with Anthony Pilkington scoring the only goal of the game with a long range effort that sneaked under Brum keeper, Lee Camp’s body.

Robinson last refereed Blackburn on the 24th April 2021, a 5:2 home win over Huddersfield, he has been in charge of six Rovers’ games in total and they haven’t lost one – 3 draws and 3 wins.

This episode comes hot off our first game of 2022, what a display from the Latics, Pizza Trophy success with a five star showing, a strong team put out by Leam Richardson rewarded the traveling supporters as we move into the quarterfinals of a competition that we have won twice previously.

More cup action on Saturday as we look ahead and preview our 3rd round FA Cup tie against old foes, Blackburn Rovers. Tony Mowbray's side are riding high in the Championship and are in excellent form coming into the game, this will be a stern test for the Latics, but our panel feel it is a test that we can complete.

Thanks again to all our listeners for your continued support, it is very much appreciated.
