Any Previous? Rotherham United v Latics

Latics and Rotherham United have met 42 times down the years, Latics having the best of those meetings with 22 wins and just 12 defeats

The first meeting came way back in the 1935/36 season when we met in an FA Cup 1st round tie at Springfield Park.

The tie ended in a 2:1 defeat for the Latics, prolific striker Teddy Felton grabbing our consolation goal, later that season Felton was signed by First Division giants Huddersfield Town having scored 75 goals in 113 appearances for the Latics in just short of three seasons.

It would be 48 years before the two clubs would meet again, this time a Division 3 encounter, New Years Eve, 1983 once again at Springfield Park, this time the score line was reversed as the Latics ran out 2:1 winners.

Our last meeting came on the 18th February, a 1:1 draw at Rotherham, Stevie Humphrys on target for the Latics.

Classic Encounters

The Latics have been involved in some memorable games down the years against Rotherham, this week’s classic meeting goes back to November 2017, looking to make an immediate return to the Championship, Paul Cook’s side consolidated their position at the top of League one with a emphatic 1:3 win at the New York Stadium, goals from Will Grigg (14), Alex Bruce (28) and Michael Jacobs (60) sealing the three points.

Meet The Ref - Rotherham United v Latics

Latics are back at it on Saturday, a trip over to South Yorkshire to face Rotherham United in a Championship clash, the referee for the game will be Hampshire official, Andy Davies.

Andy Davies

Andy Davies is a former professional football player, Gillingham, Portsmouth and Yeovil, retiring through injury at 28 and immediately getting into refereeing. Since becoming an EFL referee Andy Davies has taken charge of 324 games, issued 1083 yellow and 54 red cards, pointing to the penalty spot on 89 occasions.

 Previous Games

This will be Andy Davies’ eleventh Latics game, his first was our Championship 2:2 draw against Wolves at Molineux in the 2014/15 season, his last game in charge of us came earlier this season. Birmingham away in August.

1 red card, 2 yellows and 3 points, it turned out alright in the end, but Joe Bennett wrongly receiving his marching orders on 10 minutes looked likely to put Birmingham in the ascendency. Let’s hope Mr Davies isn’t so rash on Saturday.

Andy Davies last refereed Rotherham last November in a League One fixture at the New York Stadium against Cambridge United the Millers won the game 3:1 and they picked up 2 yellow cards.

Seven games so far for Andy Davies this season, four of which have been in the Championship.
