Latics are on the road again on Tuesday for a visit to Fleetwood in the EFL Carabao Cup, chosen to referee the match is Garstang based official, Mike Salisbury.

The 36 year old has been an EFL ref since the 2016/17 season when he took charge of Leyton Orient's home defeat by Newport County
Following four seasons on the National List, Salisbury was promoted to the Select Group 2 in 2020/21 and after just one season he impressed so much that he was subsequently promoted to the Select Group 1 for the start of last season, refereeing in the Premier League.
So far in his career, Mike Salisbury has taken charge of 189
games, issued 540 yellow and 36 red cards, pointing to the penalty spot on 45
occasions.

This will be Mike Salisbury’s first Latics game as a referee, though he was appointed 4th official on the final day of the 2020/21 season, Latics home defeat to Swindon Town, 3-4, the referee that game was a certain Graham Salisbury, Mike’s dad and it was Graham’s final fling before hanging up his whistle
Supporter’s will no doubt recall the controversial decision to send Curtis Tilt off on 65 minutes with the Latics 3:1 up!
This game is Mike Salisbury’s first of the season.
