Latics’ first away game of the new Championship season comes this Saturday and it is an early start, a lunch time kick off at Carrow Road to face Norwich City.
We have met the Canaries on 15 occasions previously with the first of these meetings coming back on the 31st January 1987, a 4th round FA Cup tie, 8,095 spectators saw Division 3 Latics beat Ken brown’s top flight Norwich City by a single goal, scored late in the game with a neat finish from Paul Jewell.
Our last meeting came on the 14th April 2019, a lunch time kick-off, the Latics battling for survival, Norwich top of the table and heading for promotion to the Premier League. Reece James gave the Latics the lead on the stroke of half-time, a penalty expertly dispatched. Teemu Pukki grabbed an 81st minute equaliser, Latics though looked to have won the game in the dying moments only to see Leon Clarke’s “winner” wrongly disallowed for off-side.

Teemu Pukki
This is Pukki’s 5th season at Norwich, joining the club at the start of the 2018/19 season on a free transfer from Danish side, Brondby.
Teemu Pukki is a prolific goalscorer in the Championship and not too shabby at Premier League level either. Scoring 53 goals from 81 games in the 2nd tier and 22 goals from 73 appearances in the top flight.
Last season Teemu Pukki made 37 Premier League appearances, scoring 11 goals from 68 attempts, he made 3 assists, completed 17 interceptions and won 11 tackles, committing 44 fouls he picked up 4 yellow cards.
