Latics travel to MK Dons on Saturday for the game of the day in League One, the two sides have only met seven times previously, five times in the league and twice in the FA Cup.
Callum McManaman restored Latics lead after 65 minutes only for Patrick Bamford to bag an 84th minute equaliser and force a replay. The Latics won that replay 1:3, with two goals from Nick Powell and a Marc-Antoine Fortune effort
Last Season
We lost 2:0 at Stadium MK in October 2020 with a pretty desperate performance, but we did get our act together in the closing stages of the season and when we met at the DW Stadium in March we gave the MK Dons a bit of a roasting with goals from George Johnston, Callum Lang and Joe Dodoo in a very comfortable 3:0 victory.
Stand Out Game
5th August 2017, opening day of the season and Paul Cook’s first game in charge of the Latics, off we went down the M1 and came back with the three points courtesy of a Nick Powell 38th minute goal.
Callum Elder received his marching orders in the 44th minute of the game, his debut for the Latics, for trying to cut MK Dons player, George Williams in half, the reds were evened up though in the second half, Scott Wooton - yes the same Scott Wooton who scored that last minute winner at Bristol Rovers for us last season – sent off for hacking down Michael Jacobs.
A healthy crowd of 9,164 treated to a very good game of football.
Latics – Walton; Byrne, Dunkley, Burn, Elder; Lee Evans, Morsy, Massey, Jacobs, Powell; Toney
Subs – Owen Evans, Perkins. Gilbey, Grigg, Thomas, Hunt, Colclough
Highlights – MK Dons 0:1 Latics
MK Dons Current Form
MK Dons currently sit 3rd in League One with 72pts from 37 games, their recent form is, WWWWW.
MK Don’s 18 home games so far this season have brought 34 points, with ten wins, four defeats & four draws, scoring 25 goals and conceding 16.
Their last game was at home on Tuesday evening against Cheltenham Town, MK Dons winning 3:1. They are currently on a run of ten League games without defeat, eight wins and two draws, scoring 16 goals and conceding just 5 in those 10 games, their last defeat was at home against Doncaster Rovers on 22nd January by a 0:1 score line.
Player To Watch – Scott Twine
Scott Twine |
The 22 year old midfield player joined MK Dons from Swindon on the 1st July 2021 following the expiration of his contract with his home town club.
Stepping into the role that Scott Fraser left at the Dons when he signed for Ipswich, Twine has certainly filled those boots and more. Latics fans will remember him from the final game of last season when he bagged a brace at the DW as Swindon beat the Latics 2:3, Twine scored the 92nd minute winner.
Twine leads the goal scoring and assist charts for MK Dons, 14 goals and 9 assists is a very good return so far from midfield in his 34 games, he isn’t afraid to have a crack with 118 attempts, 50 of which have been on target.
Twine has picked up just 3 yellow cards, committed 14 fouls but drawn 91, made 96 crosses and generally been a threat to the opposition all season.

This episode starts off with a lovely message from Sutton Podcast host Mike, hopefully our paths will cross again.
What a season so far, even though it's been tinged with the disappointment of falling at the final hurdle before a trip to Wembley could be realised, it has been some ride and that ride is far from over as far as this campaign is concerned.
Sutton showed us what can be achieved with pure guts as they covered every blade of grass to take us to penalties and ultimately knock us out of the Pizza Trophy, far play to them and best wishes for the final.
There's no time to lick our wounds as Saturday sees the Latics travel down the M1 to face an inform MK Dons, with both clubs level on points it is going to be a tense affair, though with our three games in hand, the pressure is firmly on the Dons to get the victory, a point wouldn't be a bad result for the Latics, a win, well psychologically that could seal our promotion.
This will be a tough game and not one for me to get carried away with wild predictions, I'm sure we will go and do a job and achieve a draw, I'm going for a very satisfying 1-1.
Up the tics!
