Latics and Shrewsbury have met 18 times down the years, with five wins apiece and eight draws, things are pretty equal between the two clubs.
The first meeting coming back in 1974, 23 November, non-league Latics were drawn away to Division 4 Shrewsbury Town in the first round of the FA Cup, midfielder Johnny King scored for the ‘tics at Gay Meadow in a 1:1 draw and the Shrews were brought back to Springfield Park for the replay.
Monday 25th November 1974, 11,860 spectators crammed into Springy witnessing goals from Tommy Gore and Albert Jackson to send the Latics through to round 2 with a great 2:1 victory. Shrewsbury would finish that season as Runners-Up in Division 4 and earn promotion.

2nd April 2016, a rampant Latics put on a five star display as they marched towards the League 1 title, goals from Conor McAleny, Yanic Wildschut, Jason Pearce and 2 Will Grigg efforts won the points after we fell behind to an early Sullay Kaikai effort.

The reverse fixture this campaign came on Boxing Day at the DW Stadium, a tale of Tom Pearce and the three penalties, ref Seb Stockbridge playing the pantomime villain and only awarding one.
Pearce was firstly tripped in the area, minutes later cleaned out, both of these not given, then 3minutes into the second half, the Latics left back was tripped again in the area, this time the spot kick was awarded and Will Keane dispatched to put us in front, only for Shaun Whalley to equalise on 66 mins, with what was a lovely well taken goal.
