For the purpose of this week’s ‘Any Previous’ article I am going to treat AFC Wimbledon and Wimbledon FC as the same club, in spirit they are, to the supporters they are.
Latics and Wimbledon have met 12 times down the years as Football League clubs, the Dons just edging us out with five wins to our four. The first meeting came in our first season as a Football League club, 9th September 1978, a 2:1 defeat at Plough Lane, the last was a 1:1 draw at the DW Stadium in April 2018, our final home game of the season.
The last two meetings both came in League 1 in the 2017/18 campaign, Latics winning comfortably at the Cherry Red Records Fans Stadium, by four goals to nil, Michael Jacobs opener, followed by a Nick Powell double and a last minute Ivan Toney effort. The return fixture at the DW Stadium saw Joe Piggott give the Dons the lead only for Jacobs to hit a second half leveller.
