Latics travel down to Wiltshire to face Swindon Town for our first game of 2021, taking charge of match is Weston-Super-Mare referee, Kevin Johnson.

Kevin Johnson

45 year old Johnson is in his 7th season as a Football League ref and has previously been in charge of three Latics games, all in League 1 and all away from home.

12 Mar 2016 - Colchester 3:3 Latics

16 Apr 2016 - Doncaster 3:1 Latics

05 Aug 2017 - MK Dons 0:1 Latics

A job in property maintenance plus a wife and four kids keep Johnson busy when he isn’t keeping order on the football field, it is full on at the moment but he appears to be taking it all in his stride, Johnson says – ”The commitment levels at this standard of football are enormous.

”I’m lucky that I have a very supportive and understanding wife.”

So does he see himself making progress into the higher echelons of the referees society, maybe become a Premier League ref?

Johnson appears to have aspirations to move up the refereeing ladder, he says – ”My main ambition is to become an established League referee. If it goes well for me then who knows what the future might bring?”

This season, of Kevin Johnson’s 14 games, six have been in League One, four in League Two and four spread across the various cup competitions.
