We’re off to Sixfields on Saturday to play fellow strugglers Northampton Town in a League One fixture, the man in the middle for the clash will be Geordie boy, Marc Edwards.
The 32 year old is in his second season as a National List official and has already ref’d us this campaign, our 4:3 home win over Accrington Stanley back in December.
Having served his apprenticeship in the National League, his first season in the ‘Big Time’ saw him issue just the one red card in 25 games, so far this campaign in 18 games, he hasn’t dished out any reds.
As mentioned above, this will be Edwards’ second Latics game, he has previously taken charge of one Northampton fixture, their 0:2 home defeat in last season’s League 2 playoff semi-final, first-leg against Cheltenham, who had Latics keeper, Owen Evans in goal, saving a penalty awarded by Edwards in the first half.
Edwards’ last game was a League 2 fixture between Salford & Harrogate on Saturday, 22 January, the game ended 2:2 with four yellow cards handed out, all four to Salford players, including former Latics man Tom James on his debut.
Currently, Marc is working for a Sunderland based Housing Association group as Head of Asset Management and Investment.
