Meet The Ref - Latics v Charlton

Latics play their third game in seven days at the DW Stadium on Tuesday evening, Charlton Athletic are the visitors for a League One clash, the referee for the match will be London based official, Paul Howard.

Paul Howard

This is Paul Howards 4th season on the National List, he has refereed a total of 99 games since being promoted, issuing a modest 273 yellow cards and 12 reds, awarding 24 penalties.

An interesting fact, well two actually, Paul Howard has only once issued a red card in a League 1 game.

Howard has also taken charge of a Scottish Challenge Cup tie between League of Ireland club Waterford and Hearts FC B side, Waterford winning 1:0 and just 1 yellow card issued.

 Previous Games

Paul Howard has taken charge of three Latics games previously, two in the 20/21 season, our home defeat to Oxford in November 2020 and the away draw at AFC Wimbledon in the middle of March, and once in 2022, a goalless draw away at Cheltenham where he produced that solitary League One red card to Cheltenham defender, Ben Williams, we have yet to win a game that he has been in charge of.

Paul Howard was in charge of two Charlton games last season, their EFL Trophy 2:1 home win v Brighton U21s in November 2022 and in February this year a defeat away at Derby 2:0.
