Any Previous? Burnley v Latics

Latics and Burnley have met 24 times down the years, we are certainly having the better of things historically with 12 wins and just 4 defeats.

The first meeting came on the 29th October 1983, a Division 3 game at Turf Moor, Latics going down 3-0, but we did win the return fixture at Springfield Park with over 7,000 spectators witnessing a Latics win by 1:0.

A young Wayne Biggins was in the Burnley side that day, ‘Bertie’ would go on to sign for the Latics over a decade later and was part of our squad that won the Division 3 title in the 1996/97 season.

Burnley Current Form

The Clarets currently sit top of the Championship table with 77 points from 35 games, 10 points clear of 2nd placed Sheffield United and a massive 17 points clear of 3rd placed Middlesbrough.

So far this season they have 22 wins, 11 draws and just 2 defeats, they have scored 68 goals and conceded 28.

Burnley’s last six games have brought 3 wins and 3 draws. WDWDWD.

Burnley Home Form

Burnley’s home form is the best in the Championship, they have 13 wins, 5 draws and are undefeated in their 18 games played at Turf Moor, scoring 40 goals and conceding a miserly 13 on their home patch.

Player To Watch – Nathan Tella

Nathan Tella

23 year old wide attacking player on loan at Burnley for the season, coming through Southampton’s acclaimed Academy.

Making the switch to the North West, Nathan Tella has really made a mark in the Championship, his 32 appearances for Burnley have produced 12 goals, and 3 assists.

A player with bags of pace and excellent close control, Tella has arguably been the Championship player of this particular season.

So far this season Nathan Tella has made 57 attempts to score, with 24 on target.

A player in great form and one of the main reasons to the success that Burnley have enjoyed this campaign, certainly a player to watch.
