Following the international break, the Latics are back in League 1 action at the DW Stadium this weekend, Doncaster Rovers will be the visitors. The man charged with ensuring the laws of the game are upheld is West Yorkshire referee, Tom Nield.

As well as being a National List Ref (League’s 1&2) Nield is also a senior nurse/matron with the Acute & Emergency Service at the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust and he was thrust into the frontline when the Coronavirus pandemic hit the UK in the Spring of 2020.

Tom Nield was appointed to the National List back in the 2017/18 season, his first game was Cambridge United 1:2 Carlisle United and he has gone on to ref 115 games in the following seasons.
Nield has taken charge of just two Latics games previously, both last season, both at the DW Stadium and both were defeats.
Of Tom Nield’s 4 games so far, 2 have been in League One, 1 in League Two and 1 in the EFL Cup.
