Any Previous? Northampton v Latics

Northampton away on Saturday as the Latics look to pick themselves up following Tuesday’s result.

The two clubs have met 36 times down the years with the Latics having much the better of things, 18 wins to the Cobblers 6.

Up until our meeting at the DW back on Halloween, the previous seven had all gone the way of the Latics, with Northampton failing to score in any of those games.

We have an impressive record at Northampton, in 18 visits we have only lost three times. February 2001 was the last time we lost there, the Cobblers doing us 1:0 at Sixfields.

Last Time There

Back to New Years Day 2018 for the last time we went to Sixfields, a Nick Powell first half headed goal was enough on the day to get us the three points and keep us top of the table.

Latics Team - Walton; Byrne, Dunkley, Burn, James; Morsy, Evans, Jacobs, Massey (Power 70); Powell (Toney 71), Grigg (Perkins 85)

Unused Subs – Sarkic, Bruce, Roberts, Hunt

Meet The Ref - Northampton v Latics

We’re off to Sixfields on Saturday to play fellow strugglers Northampton Town in a League One fixture, the man in the middle for the clash will be Geordie boy, Marc Edwards.

Marc Edwards

The 32 year old is in his second season as a National List official and has already ref’d us this campaign, our 4:3 home win over Accrington Stanley back in December.

Having served his apprenticeship in the National League, his first season in the ‘Big Time’ saw him issue just the one red card in 25 games, so far this campaign in 18 games, he hasn’t dished out any reds.

As mentioned above, this will be Edwards’ second Latics game, he has previously taken charge of one Northampton fixture, their 0:2 home defeat in last season’s League 2 playoff semi-final, first-leg against Cheltenham, who had Latics keeper, Owen Evans in goal, saving a penalty awarded by Edwards in the first half.

Edwards’ last game was a League 2 fixture between Salford & Harrogate on Saturday, 22 January, the game ended 2:2 with four yellow cards handed out, all four to Salford players, including former Latics man Tom James on his debut.

Currently, Marc is working for a Sunderland based Housing Association group as Head of Asset Management and Investment.

Meet The Ref - Latics v Blackpool

Latics and Blackpool meet at the DW Stadium on Tuesday in a League 1 fixture, taking charge of the game is Lincolnshire based referee, Darren Drysdale.

Darren Drysdale

The 49 year old official is a sergeant in the RAF and currently based at RAF Waddington. So he’ll be used to handing out the ‘marching orders’ if any player steps out of line.

This will be the first time that Drysdale has refereed a Latics game since the 2017/18 season when he took charge of our first round FA Cup tie away at AFC Fylde, which ended 1:1. Although he has been to the DW Stadium previously this campaign, he was 4th official for our League 1 game with Oxford United back in November.

Drysdale last ref’d Blackpool in August 2019 when they defeated Oxford 2:1 at Bloomfield Road.
