Looking ahead to tomorrow morning’s League 1 season opener between Ipswich Town and the Latics, a quick glance at previous encounters shows that there is nothing to separate the two clubs down the years, though it is fair to say the Ipswich have had the better of things lately.
With no wins in our last six meetings we have to go back to March 2014 when two goals from James McClean and a Leon Barnett effort gave us all the points in a 1-3 win at Portman Road.
More recently we have managed just 2 points from a possible 18 against the Tractor Boys.
My abiding memory of the Latics
playing at Portman Road is the late December 2004 encounter which we actually
lost by a score-line of 2-1, but, and it is a big but our goal in that game was
Leighton Baines’ first for the club and gave us the lead just before the hour
mark, what a goal it was.
