Meet The FA Cup Ref - Latics v Chorley

Latics FA Cup 1st round tie against local rivals and old friends Chorley will be refereed by County Durham official, Martin Coy.

Martin Coy

What’s that, his name rings a bell, it should do, it is only a month since Coy last ref’d the Latics, our calamitous visit to Crewe back in October, a 3:0 defeat and not one Latics player cautioned. Hopefully we’ll be a little less passive on Sunday.

Coy joined the National List of referees in August 2017, he has three previous Latics games under his belt, the Crewe game plus two from the 2017/18 season.

Our FA Cup 1st round tie against Crawley, which we won 2:1 and our League 1 encounter away at Bradford, which again we won, this time 0:1 courtesy of a late Michael Jacobs goal.

Interesting Martin Coy Fact

Eight of the nine FA Cup ties that he has refereed down the seasons have ended up as a home win, the one that didn’t was Tranmere 2:2 Wycombe last season. Tranmere however did progress to the next round by winning the replay at Wycombe 1:2, hopefully a lucky omen for us.
