Ever since the news broke that our
beloved Football Club was entering administration talk on social media
and beyond has been dominated by discussions around who is to blame for
this devastating blow to a club that has both survived and achieved so
much over the years.
This morning I spoke with Lisa Nandy both
our local MP and Shadow Foreign Secretary of State. She assured me that
the necessary questions will be asked regarding how this state of
affairs could be allowed to happen to such a club that has been
subsequently described by administrators as “well run” and “financially
viable”. I was reassured that she will continue to press the Sports
Minister and the EFL for answers until someone is held to account and
our Football Club are exonerated of blame that is currently leading to a
deduction of points and further uncertainty for our future.
As
supporters we must try to focus on the immediate priority that is
fulfilling our fixtures for the current season. Without this we cease
to be a Football Club in the English Football League and there are steps
we can take to ensure our future at least in the short term so that a
buyer can be found in the longer term.
The Official Wigan
Athletic Supporters Club is today launching the “Let’s Hang On” appeal.
We pledge the first £10,000 to finish our 2020-21 season and we ask all
fans, friends, family of our club to pledge their support to ensure
that Wigan Athletic Football Club have the necessary funds to complete
the season.
We have setup a crowdfunder.co.uk page in conjunction
with Murry Toms – Campaign Director of Crowd Funder and Chairman of
Cheltenham Town FC who have offered their services for free.
As
the Official Supporters Club we will ensure that all funds go directly
to the Football Club to support their needs over the coming weeks. We
have worked on behalf of the Football Club for over 40 years and we are
in a trusted position to bring together supporters from across all
groups and organisations to ensure survival for our club.
We
have spoken to Wigan Athletic Officials and they have confirmed that
they would welcome our support with funds for our team travelling to
away fixtures, overnight stays and helping to pay the wages of over 500
staff at the club.
We need to work together to get through the season!
PLEDGE NOW to support Wigan Athletic Football Club
