Any Previous? Huddersfield Town v Wigan Athletic

Well we’re back at it after 3 months on the sidelines this Saturday, a trip to the top of the Pennine’s to face Huddersfield Town will get us under way to finally concluding the 2019/20 Championship season.

Latics and Huddersfield have met on 31 occasions down the years.

The first clash was in November 1973 in the 2nd round of the FA cup, when non-league Latics travelled to Leeds Road, the then home of Huddersfield, and were well beaten 2-0, we did get some revenge for that defeat 40 years later though, a 4-1 win at the John Smiths Stadium in the 5th round of the same competition on our way to lifting the world famous trophy at Wembley in 2013. There’s always a connection.

Previous meetings – Latics 9 wins, Huddersfield 14, draws 8

For me the stand out game as far as Latics fans are concerned just as to be the 0-0 draw in April 2003

4,000 Wiganers made the 40 odd mile trip up the M62 to watch the Latics affirm their position as League 2 Champions, although the trophy wasn’t presented on the day the result meant that Wigan Athletic had an unassailable lead at the top of the table, a brilliant occasion for all the Latics fans.
