Meet The Ref - Reading v Latics

Name: Geoff Eltringham
Born: 1980
Place of Birth: Co Durham

Geoff Eltringham has come through the ranks, starting off in the Blue Square Premier League back in August 2008 when he was in charge of Burton’s 3-2 home win against Woking, the following season Eltringham was in the Football League, his first game a 2-2 draw between Morecambe and Hereford.

So far this season, 17 of his 21 games have been in the Championship, including our 2-1 defeat away at Stoke back in November.

Latics’ related facts:

We have never lost a home game in which Geoff Eltringham has refereed. Our first game after relegation from the Premier League, a four nil away win at Barnsley, was ref’d by Eltringham.
He was the referee who gave a controversial 89th minute penalty to Nottingham Forest at the DW last season, the Forest player later admitted that he thought he was going to be booked for diving, Geoff though had other ideas and gave a decision which ultimately cost the Latics the three points in the dying moments of a game.
