Latics head off to Wrexham on Tuesday for an EFL Cup tie, the first meeting between the two clubs in over 20 years, the referee for the game will be Wiltshire based official, Sam Allison.
Sam Allison |
Allison, who is a full time firefighter, broke on to the National List for the start of the 2020/21 season, having spent the previous five seasons serving his apprentice in the National League.
Since getting onto the National List of Refs, Sam Allison has gone on to take charge of 103 games, issuing 324 yellow and 12 red cards and awarding 26 penalties.
Previous Games
This will be Allison’s third Latics game, his first was in our administration season, a 0:1 defeat to Charlton at the DW Stadium, a cardless game, the second came last campaign, our 0:2 defeat to Swansea, also at the DW, this time Charlie Hughes, Jack Whatmough and Callum Lang all finding their way into Fireman Sam’s book.
Allison last refereed Wrexham back in the 2018/19 season, a 1:0 defeat away at Leyton Orient in April, also a bad tempered game away at Maidstone at the start of that season, 7 bookings, 2 reds and a penalty, hopefully none of that sort of shenanigans on Tuesday.
Last season Sam Allison refereed 35 games, of which 2 were in the Championship, the rest spread between League One & Two and the cup competitions, he issued 114 yellow cards, 4 reds and awarded 7 penalties.
