Latics entertain Huddersfield Town at the DW Stadium on Saturday, a massive game down at the bottom end of the Championship, the referee will be Surrey official, Gavin Ward.

Having made his debut in August 2007 refereeing the Hereford United v Barnet game which ended 2-1, the 52 year old was promoted to the Select Group 2 in 2018.
In his career in the EFL, Gavin Ward has taken charge of 551 games,
issued 1797 yellow and 87 red cards, pointing to the penalty spot on 141
occasions, Ward has also refereed in the MLS on one occasion.
Previous Games
Ward has taken charge of ten Latics’ games previously, the last time he was at the DW Stadium was during our administration period, April 2021, he was in charge of our 2:1 win over Sunderland.
Ward has refereed Huddersfield twice this season, both Championship away games, a 2:1 defeat at Birmingham in August and a 1:2 win at QPR in November.
So far this season Gavin Ward has refereed 27 games, of which 21 have come in the Championship.
