Latics and Sheffield United have met on 20 occasions down the years, with the Blades having slightly the better of those encounters.
Our first meeting came in the 1981/82 season, the 5th September ‘81, Springfield Park a Division 4 clash, Latics going down 0:1, the same scoreline was repeated in the away fixture 6th months later in March at Bramall Lane, Larry Lloyd’s table topping side slipping up against a main promotion rival, the prolific Rob Edwards scoring the only goal in both games.
Sheffield United went up as Champions that season with Latics also gaining promotion, finishing the campaign off in 3rd place behind Bradford City on goal difference.
Our last meeting with Sheffield United was on the 1st January 2019, a 0:3 defeat at DW Stadium, a dismal game for the Latics, David McGoldrick, Mark Duffy and Billy Sharp scoring for the visitors that day.

Player To Watch – Iliman Ndiaye
Iliman Ndaiye |
22 year old Sengal international attacking midfield man, Iliman Ndiaye is a real danger man for the Blades attack.
Ndiaye joined Sheffield United from National League side Boreham Wood in August 2019 and spent a short spell on loan with Hyde United.
With 9 goals from 22 games, Ndiaye is currently joint top scorer in the Blades ranks with Olie McBurnie and he is highly rated and reportedly subject to interest from admiring clubs. A strong, quick attacking midfielder, he is a real handful for defences in the Championship.
