Monday evening we welcome local rivals and Premier League club, Manchester United to the DW Stadium for a 3rd round FA Cup tie, the referee for the game is scheduled to be Wythenshawe official, Anthony Taylor.
Anthony Taylor |
The 45 year old is vastly experienced and highly recognisable to followers of the Premier League and international football. Taylor has been knocking around the big time for quite a number of years now and first refereed a Latics game back in February 2010 our Premier League defeat away at St Andrews against Birmingham City, 1:0, booking Gary Caldwell, Charles N’Zogbia and Hugo Rodallega.
Previous Games
Anthony Taylor has refereed the Latics nine times previously, the last three have all been against Manchester City, two of which were FA Cup ties – we won them both – and of those nine games we have only lost three.
Taylor has only awarded the Latics one penalty - away at the Etihad in March 2014 - and he hasn't issued any of our players a red card, he has awarded two penalties against us, we lost both of those games, 1:0 v Birmingham in the game mentioned above and 2:3 v Sunderland on a horrible January night in 2013.
The only red card that Anthony Taylor has brandished in a Latics game was to Fabian Delph in our 1:0 win over Manchester City at the DW back in 2018.
Taylor has refereed Manchester United forty-five times in total, awarding them ten penalties with just two to their opponents, he was in charge of two almighty thumpings at Old Trafford, a 1:6 defeat at the hands of Spurs in 2020 and the 0:5 pasting off Liverpool a year later in 2021.
Anthony Taylor’s last Manchester United game came earlier this season, 3rd September away at the Emirates, Arsenal running out 3:1 winners.
