A date to
remember - 11th March 1997.
Wigan Athletic
recorded their biggest home win on a wonderful Tuesday evening when Scarborough
were put to the sword with a scintillating display as we ran out 7-1 winners at
Springfield Park.
The 96/97
season was a truly memorable one for many reasons, we were crowned Champions at
the end of the campaign, pipping Fulham to the title on goals scored.
Graeme Jones
set the ‘most league goals in a season’ record with 31 crackers and of course
we smashed Scarborough with goals from Martinez, Lowe (2), Diaz (2), Lancashire
and Biggins, in front of a crowd of 3,094.
The Roberto
Martinez goal was an absolute pearler, but don’t take my word for it, have a
look at the match highlights.
