Meet The Boxing Day Ref - Rotherham v Latics

 Latics head off to the New York Stadium on Boxing Day, for a League One fixture with old adversaries Rotherham United, the referee for the game is scheduled to be Durham based official, Martin Coy.

Coy joined the National List of referees in August 2017, he is a former PE and Maths teacher. 

Previous Games

Martin Coy has seven Latics games under his belt so far, his most eventful one came in March 2022, issuing 3 yellows, all to our lads, Darikwa, Shinnie and Power and he also issued straight reds to both James McClean and Fleetwood's Joe Garner. 

That wasn’t the only game where the 51 year old flashed a red at the Brick Community Stadium, November 2020, Adam Long was given his marching orders in our FA Cup defeat to local rivals Chorley.

His last Latics game came last season, our 0:1 away win over Lincoln City in April, though he was scheduled to take charge of the defeat to Orient back on the 7^th December but was replaced by Carl Brook for some reason.

Meet The Ref - Latics v Shrewsbury Town

Latics are back at the Brick Community Stadium on Saturday, hoping to build on last weekend’s result as we face Shrewsbury Town, the referee for the game will be Rochdale official, Tom Parsons. 

The 32 year old was promoted to the National List for the start of the 2022/23 season, since then he has taken charge of 67 games, issued 309 yellow cards, 11 reds and awarded 10 penalties.

Previous Games

Tom Parsons has one Latics game under his belt, Boxing Day last season, our 0:1 home defeat to Derby County, four Latics players found their way into the book that day, Liam Morrison, Baba Adeeko, Sean Clare and Callum Lang.

Parsons has refereed Shrewsbury twice previously, both at The Meadow, a 1:1 draw against Barnsley being the latest in February this year, awarding the Tykes a 92 minute penalty to deny the Salop taking all the points.

Meet The Ref - Bolton v Latics

The Latics make the short trip to Horwich for the derby game with Bolton Wanderers on Saturday, in charge of the fixture will be Gateshead official, Adam Herczeg.

 

The 29 year old was promoted to the National List for the start of the 2022/23 season and in the 18 months that have followed, Herczeg has taken charge of 61 games, issuing a total of 189 yellow cards, 3 reds and he's awarded 11 penalties.

Previous Games

Adam Herczeg has been in charge of three Latics games previously, two coming last campaign, back in September, our 2:1 win over Cambridge United at the DW Stadium, awarding 22 free kicks in the match and booking both Omar Rekik and Baba Adeeko and the ‘historic’ game against Wycombe Wanderers back in January, Herczeg was substituted in the 2^nd half following a collision with two players, Charlie Hughes scoring in the 119^th minute to win us the game.

This will be the first time that Adam Herczeg has been in charge of a Bolton game.

Meet The Vertu Trophy Ref - Chesterfield v Latics

Latics travel down to Derbyshire on Tuesday, a visit to our old friends at Chesterfield for an EFL Vertu Trophy cup tie, the referee for the game is scheduled to be Wolverhampton lad, Greg Rollason.

In his early 30s, Greg has been refereeing in the National League for the past two seasons.

Rollason has yet to referee in the EFL but he has been 4^th Official on 9 occasions across the Championship (1), League One (6) and League Two (2).

Greg Rollason has just one previous experience of officiating an EFL side, that came about in an FA cup game, which he wasn’t scheduled to take charge of, stepping up from 4^th official in the Wimbledon v Dagenham & Redbridge 2^nd round tie on 30^th November when ref Craig Hicks was injured.

A former Geography teacher now teaching PE & Sport, Rollason is also the director of operations at the Whistle Foundation.
