Meet The Ref - Charlton v Latics

The Latics get the Ryan Lowe show on the road on Saturday, a trip to South London to face promotion chasing Charlton Athletic at the Valley, the referee for the match will be Oxfordshire official, Graham Scott.

The, 57 year old has been a Football League referee since 2008 and a Select Group 1 official since 2015. Since becoming a Football League ref, Scott has been in charge of close on 500 games, but surprisingly none have come this season!

In fact I was under the impression that the seasoned official had hung up his whistle and retired, but apparently not, he had a run out in a reserve game last weekend and is now all set to take charge of the battle of the Athletics down in SE7.

Last campaign - 2034/24 – Graham Scott took charge of 22 games, 6 of which were in the Premier League and 11 in the Championship, and he appeared to bow out of refereeing on May 19th at Turf Moor on the final day of the season as Forest beat Burnley 1:2. But he’s back!

Previous Games

Scott has taken charge of four Latics’ games previously, all have come in the Championship, two away days in the 2013/14 season, the first of these saw a controversial red card for Callum McManaman on 59 minutes, the last time he was in charge of a Latics game it ended in a 1:1 draw, away at Watford in March 2023, James McClean on the scoresheet and Max Power, Omar Rekik, Daniel Sinani and Tendayi Darikwa picking up yellows.

Meet The Ref - Latics v Cambridge United

A massive game at the Brick Community Stadium on Saturday when relegation threatened Cambridge United are in town, the referee is scheduled to be Chesterfield born official, Matt Corlett.

33 year old Matt Corlett is in his second season in the EFL following promotion to the National List of refs in August 2023.

Previous Games

Corlett hasn’t refereed either the Latics nor Cambridge United previously, in fact he’s got just 14 League One games under his belt, 8 of those coming this campaign.

He also appears to love making a decision, 128 cards - including 7 reds - and 8 penalties in just 27 games suggests we could be in for an eventful 90 minutes on Saturday.

Meet The Ref - Latics v Reading

Saturday sees us welcome playoff chasing Reading to the Brick Community Stadium, the referee for the game is scheduled to be Staffordshire official, Oliver Yates.

Ollie Yates made it on to the National List of referees back in 2016, his first game coming in the League 2 meeting between Yeovil Town and Notts County on the 6th August, since making his debut he has taken charge of over 250 games.

Previous Games

Yates has been in charge of four Latics games previously, the last of which was our defeat away at Donny in the EFL Trophy back in 2024, a 1:1 draw on the night but going out the competition in a penalty shoot out.

The other three all came in League One, two away, Charlton and Wimbledon in the administration season and last season Yates was at the DW Stadium for our 2:1 win over highflying Peterborough, Sessegnon, Lang and Godo picking up yellows in that game.
