Meet The Ref - Latics v Burton Albion

Latics start the Easter programme off at the DW Stadium on Good Friday,  Burton Albion, who are fighting for their League One lives, are the vistors, the referee for the game will be Lincolnshire based official, Darren Drysdale.

The 52 year old official is a sergeant in the RAF and currently based at RAF Waddington. So he’ll be used to handing out the ‘marching orders’ if any player steps out of line, he does have a bit of a reputation as a tough man too.

A veteran of over 550 games, Drysdale is a vastly experienced referee.

Previous Games

This will be the 7th Latics game for Drysdale, his last one coming in December when he stood in for Ben Toner in our League One 2:0 home win against Carlisle, booking Liam Morrison, Sean Clare and Liam Shaw, plus 6 Carlisle players.

Meet The Ref - Wycombe Wanderers v Latics

Latics are back in action on Tuesday, a trip down the M40 to face Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park, the referee for the game will be Birmingham official, Scott Tallis.

Tallis is in his first season as a National List official, he’s spent the previous three years plying his trade in the National League.

Previous Games

Scott Tallis has refereed the Latics once previously, that game came in the EFL Trophy on the 10th October 2023

A group game against League One rivals Fleetwood, we drew 3:3 on the night, two goals down, Latics fought back through Stevie Humphrys and Josh Stones, then a wicked free-kick from Tom Pearce looked to have sewn up the match in our favour only for a last second equaliser for the Cod Men to spoil the party, but we took the bonus point courtesy of a 7:6 penalty shout-out win.

Just the one previous Wycombe game for Tallis too, that also came earlier this season, on the 30 September, this time in the league.

A home win over Carlisle United, 2:0, Tallis sent off the Cumbrians goalkeeper on 29 minutes for handball outside the area with the game goalless, 10 minutes later he awarded Wycombe a penalty, which Luke Leahy dispatched, Sam Vokes wrapped the game up in the 2nd half.

Meet The Ref - Latics v Leyton Orient

Latics are at the DW Stadium on Saturday, Leyton Orient are in town for the first time since February 1997, the referee for the game will be Poulton-Le-Fylde official, Scott Oldham.

The 40 year old broke onto the National List for the start of the 2017/18 season, his first game was a League 2 encounter between Cheltenham and Crawley which finished 1:0 to the home side

Since hitting the big time Scott Oldham has gone on to take charge of 232 games with a ratio of 3 yellows per game and just 22 reds in total, during the 2020/21 season he was redless across 33 games. The two he issued last campaign were both 2nd yellows, though he has handed out two straight reds this season so far.

 Previous Games

This will be Scott Oldham’s fifth Latics game, his first was in our administration season, a 1:1 draw with Plymouth at the DW Stadium, Curtis Tilt finding his way into the notebook with both sides picking up a booking apiece as well as a goal each.

His last was our opening game this season away at Derby, a great win to get the campaign off to a flyer.

Oldham has been in charge of one Orient game this season, their 1:0 defeat away at Chesterfield in the FA Cup on the 3rd December.
