Progress With Unity Podcast #177: Preston and Wolves reviews, Brentford preview

"Wow, Preston's only just finished and the Brentford game is mere minutes away from kickoff! This Championship thing is passing us by far too quickly for my liking.

"In fact I'll have you know I was born on 1 July and will be drawing my pension in two months' time. Life's all too short when you're a fruit fly like me, eh?"

*Is flattened by extra large fly swat

Can't turn back that clock, Marty. Onwards and Beewards...

PWU Latics Podcast - What A Difference A win Makes

This week's pod welcomes back statman from his trip to love land with his good lady, there is a certain glow about him that can only be described as 'afterglow'.

Chatting about a defeat away at your local rivals isn't always the best way to get an evening of fun underway, but we do our best.

Definitely a game of two parts, part of us went to Deepdale, the other part watched on Sky, same result though, we lost and, despite having the lion's share of possession couldn't find a way through the Preston defence.

A different story on Tuesday though, what a difference a win makes, much more buoyant about the team, well we are out of the bottom three.

Team selection, dives or pens, Perkins, Power and soft goals all discussed, plus the Will Grigg affair!

Brentford on Saturday and the crew give their thoughts on the trip, I must say we aren't too positive about our chances and there was I thinking we'd turned a corner!

Progress With Unity Podcast #176: Fulham review, Preston preview

Fulham... predictable no-score draw... Des Lynam's drawers... shampooed moustache... Nigel Mansell... Maunsell sea forts... Sealand... sealant... Screw Thicks Direct... screw me to a blasted fence post... screw Wigan Fulham fixtures!

Sorry, I lapse into word association when my stamina runs low - 0-0s tend to have that effect on a small time internet weblogger. Just pretend it's an impromptu game of 'Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon' and all will be well.

I certainly ain't drunk, mind. Not yet, anyway

PWU Latics Podcast - Friday Night In Preston

September 21, 2016

Barry, Simon, Rob and Adam are in the studio this week and PNE supporter Nick Myres meets up for a chat about Friday night's game.

We start this week off with Si's 'off the terrace' report from Saturday's goalless draw with Fulham at the DW, a game we should have won.

There were some good performances in the game and praise where praise is due. Nathan Byrne made his home debut coming on for the injured Alex Gilbey and playing an hour.

Friday sees the Latics travel 15 miles up the M6 for a televised meeting with Preston and we have a chat with North End fan Nick about the fixture, Preston's form and, despite the fact that they have hit 14 goals so far this season, the fact that they just can't score!

Si and Barry have a report about what went on at the latest Fans Advisory Board meeting on Tuesday at the DW, from programmes to open days to free away travel, but no mention of goal music or Chicken Balti pies.

Progress With Unity Podcast #175: Sheff Wed and Norwich reviews, Fulham preview

Where's Michael Fish when you need 'im? I remain convinced that Manchester is covered in a perpetual cloud that follows you around, Addams Family style. But thank goodness it's a relatively small cloud spanning just the city centre, or we may have been watching the Norwich Beamback from the DW Stadium Jordi Gomez Memorial Swimming Pool.

...He's Wigan's greatest ever diver, you see.

Barry, Mick, Rob and Adam (P) are in the studio this week and are joined on the phone by Fulham supporter Dan Crawford of HammyEnd.com fame.

As you can imagine there is a lot to discuss, Si's Sheffield Wedensday 'Off The Terrace' sets the tone as he pulls no punches.

Talk soon switches to the defeat at Norwich and in particular the first goal, what was going on there?

It's not all doom and gloom though as the second half performance and the introduction of both Yanic Wildschut and Nathan Byrne proved that there is a strong attacking threat in the team.

Next we are joined by Dan from Fulham for a low down on Saturday's opponents and he gives us some hope ahead of the fixture, despite the fact that we haven't beaten the Cottagers in our last 15 attempts!

We sign off with a look ahead to the next ten games, there is a belief that we will come out of this coming sequence with a few points under our belts, well we hope!

Progress With Unity Podcast #174: Sheff Wed preview

'Captain' Bogdan amuses himself during the international break.

Progress With Unity is proud to announce its squad numbers for the 2015/16 season! But due to the English Podcast League's archaic copyright policies, we are are not able to publish them here at our small time internet weblog without paying at least £30 in paperwork fees.

Since we only have extra strong mints in the petty cash draw, you must solve these cryptic puzzles to find out who has been allocated which number. Have fun!

1. The one who finds increasingly creative ways to criticise the fourth official... but only when Wigan lose.
3. The one who slips in the odd curse word to make sure that part is edited out.
4. The one who finishes all the extra strong mints without telling anyone else they're there.
5. The one who forgets this is a Wigan Athletic podcast and talks about cricket/rugby/Olympics/competitive welly throwing at great length.
7. The one who is supposed to spend time on these descriptions but bursts bubble wrap instead.

Oh dear, I just realised that all those clues apply to every one of our panellists. You'll have to forgive me - it *has* been a pretty mind-numbing week of non-football, after all...

This week's podcast crew are Barry, Mick, Adam, Simon and Gareth.

We kick off proceedings with a report from Si about his experiences at Salford City last Saturday when he took advantage of the fact we had no game and visited possibly the most famous non-league club in the country at the moment to see what all the hype is about.

Next up is a quick nod to the Wigan 10K runners and riders from last Sunday, great event as usual.

Loan watch, Ryan Colclough at MK Dons and Sanmi Odelusi at Rochdale, well I never.

The Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich City previews are up next with ref watch and previous encounters, Gareth also has some good stats about both of our upcoming opponents.

Progress With Unity Podcast #173: QPR review, transfer deadline day

Wigan Athletic v Queens Park Rangers: an exercise in splitting the happy clappers from the doom mongers; a Floydian exercise in sturdy defensive sensibilities; an exercise in Caldwellian (im)patience.

Transfer Deadline Day: an exercise in extreme showmanship; an exercise in dodgy ties and even dodgier haircuts; an exercise in glorification of the utterly mundane (raises hand).

International break: An exercise in having to spend your Saturday making up silly rumours to amuse yourself; an exercise in wondering why Alex Witsel wants Marouane Fellaini's haircut.

PWU: An exercise in futility?

This week's podcast is recorded on transfer deadline day and an excited bunch we are

Before we get down to the comings and goings there is the QPR game to discuss, what a strange formation we played and what an equally strange decision to play Max Power at right back.

In and outs are looked at, we have had a busy window and once again a large turnover of playing staff, but for the better? Well we seem to feel so.
