Progress With Unity Podcast #114: Huddersfield review, Ipswich preview

Big Ben's final chime of the transfer window draws near... (c)Illarterate

The transfer window has less than a week to run, and those inevitable incomings and outgoings are finally starting to happen. Ahah, just when the PWU team needed more stuff to talk about! In fact, this edition was soooo loooong they had to cut it short for space saving reasons.

(Not really, the recorder's batteries ran out!)

Progress With Unity Podcast #113: Blackburn review, Huddersfield preview

The Big Draw. (c)Bundesarchiv

Question for you all: when were you this happy with a draw? Was it when King Edgar Davids pulled that magical ball from the velvety bag of wondrousness? When you won a tenner on the Lotto last Saturday? When you, er, drew the curtains to block out the glaring sun?

Those Progress With Unity blokes, by contrast, are never happy. Only when someone brings us free cake and biscuits do we crack smiles through mouths crammed with cream. Which is not that often, hence the return to Charlie Brooker mode of late.

But you'll be pleased to hear that this week's edition is the most positive so far this year. A juicy Championship point does tend to have that effect on you, I find!

Progress With Unity Podcast #112: Birmingham review, Blackburn preview

Time for more Latic yakkety yak. (c)Pongratz

They say February is the most depressing month of the year... but the thoroughly depressed PWU panellists beg to differ. Having stared at the Ceefax league table for far longer than is healthy, they are all too aware that Wigan have slipped from the second page to the dreaded third. You know things are bad when you have to wait at least 25 seconds for your page to load... still, it gives you time to go and make yourself a sandwich or download the latest edition of the Progress With Unity Podcast. (Hint, hint!)

Well what can we say apart from it's bad, ok then it's very bad. Another defeat, this time against a side that we destroyed just four months back, we could have been 5 down by half time, Birmingham a cut above.

Shaun Maloney and Callum McManaman are reportedly on their way, the transfer window will see changes in the playing staff, hopefully the rumour of incomings will be true.

Big game this weekend, we preview the Blackburn game, another tough encounter.

Contents: Matrimonial intros (0:00); Donaldson v Wigan: Birmingham review (1:30) including Dinner Dinner Statman and report from correspondent Russialatic (2:00); panic on the streets of Wigan (10:10) and outside influences? (14:20); elephants stampeding in the room (18:55); When I'm Cleaning (Transfer) Windows (24:50); B'burn succinct teletext preview (34:20) including Statman 2 (37:00) and positively negative predictions (40:00); Fit Fans: looking forward to Tuesday nights (43:20); All Gone Latics #03 not-so-cheap plug (45:55) with Joe Newton interview (49:00)

Progress With Unity Podcast #111: Leeds, Sheff Wed and Bolton reviews, Birmingham preview

So is it No. 111 or No. 53? (c)Aleposta

Ahem, please excuse the intermittent shuffling of my feet, Geoff - in a somewhat unsettling turn of events, I seem to have been possessed by the ghost of cricket umpire David Shepherd. This recent Lancashire-Yorkshire rivalry has me in the mood for a spot of cucumber-tinged, smelly flannel leather-on-willow nostalgia.

Sadly the cricket season is a few months away yet, so we must be content with oversized balls for the time being. But don't worry, for summer (and hopefully Championship survival) will soon be upon us... or so I keep telling myself.

It may be a new year but we appear to have the same old problems, the podcast crew let a little steam off as we take a look back at our cup exit at the hands of Bolton.

Oriol Riera's departure hasn't gone down too well with some of the crew, no forwards, no goals, simple as.

Birmingham are flying under Gary Rowett, what a change in fortunes from August when we thumped them 4-0 at the DW, Brum preview.

We finish off with a debate about just what is success as far as the Latics are concerned, it would appear that each of us has a slightly different perception

Contents: Intros – Happy New Podcast! (0:00); Bolton doomfest (0:30); Mackay misgivings (6:40) including makeshift strikers (13:30); Wigan at the transfer window (18:10); Whelan ban: ‘orchestrated muppetry’ (21:10); not as bad as you think? (28:00); revving up for Brum: preview (32:00) including RefWatch (32:40) and predictions (35:00); Question Time: “What is success for your side?” (36:25) including From Non-league to FA Cup Glory… The Wimbledon Story (44:00).
