The feedback from Operation Huddersfield has been very good, from a
selfish point of view it added to the ‘Match Day Experience’ for myself and
others that I have spoken to, meeting the players as they arrive and giving
them a few plaudits felt good.
Shall we carry on the ‘Fan’s Rally’ meeting the players as they arrive
for the Norwich game and beyond? I don’t see why not.
Operation Huddersfield was a great success, the players did genuinely
get a lift from the positivity that the supporters who were there generated.
Let’s keep this going.
It is something that can be built upon and by the time we play Rotherham
on the 8th May, we can hopefully enjoy a celebration with the lads.
Passion off the pitch builds passion on it.
Our club, our players, stand up and be counted, let’s make that
difference.
Once again congregate at the corner of the East and South Stands, next
to the players car park, from 12:45 – 1pm, the players are due to arrive
shortly afterwards.
Latics are back at the DW Stadium on Saturday, a Championship fixture
against Norwich City, the referee for the game is County Durham based
official, Geoff Eltringham.
Geoff Eltringham
I’ll say it again, Jack Dee and Geoff Eltringham have never been seen in
the same room at the same time.
The 42 year old has been on the National List of referees since the
2009/10 season, his first game coming on the 8th August 2009, a 2-2
draw in League 2 between Morecambe and Hereford.
So far in
his career, Geoff Eltringham has taken charge of 451 games, issued 1310 yellow
and 83 red cards, pointing to the penalty spot on 128 occasions. Previous Games
This will be Eltringham’s 16th Latics game as a referee, his first was
our 0:4 away win at Barnsley in August 2013, our first Championship game
following relegation from the Premier League. His last one was our best
forgotten first game off 2023, the 1:4 home defeat to Hull City.
Geoff Eltringham last refereed Norwich City in their 1:2 away win at Reading
in December 2020.
Part of the Select Group 2, Eltringham officiates across the EFL, of his
17 games so far this campaign, 6 have come in the Championship.

Latics travel down to face Bristol City at Ashton
Gate on Wednesday, 29 meetings so far between the two clubs, the Robins having the
better of things with 13 wins to our 6.
The first time we met Bristol City was early in the 1984/85 season, a
Division 3 fixture at Ashton Gate, we suffered a 2:0 defeat in front 7,840
spectators.
The return fixture that season came at Springfield Park on 23 April ’85
and ended a little more palatable, 2:2 with Gary Bennett and Steve Walsh
scoring the goals in front of 2,423 fans.
The reverse fixture earlier this season ended in a 1:1 draw at the DW
Stadium, an entertaining game with Will Keane’s 67th minute
equaliser after Andreas Weimann had given Bristol City an early lead.
Ashton Gate is anything but a happy hunting ground for the Latics, just
2 victories over the years, both coming in the 3rd tier, both 0:1
games, 29th April 1989 and 10th January 2003
Classic
Encounters
Going back to that game on the 10th January 2003, live on
Sky, the Latics put in a great performance and thanks to a cracking Peter
Kennedy free kick, came back home with the 3 points.
The Robins currently sit 13th in the Championship table with 39
points from 30 games, 10 wins, 9 draws and 11 defeats, they have scored 40
goals and conceded 39.
Bristol City’s last six league games have brought 3 wins and 3 draws.
Bristol City Home Form
Bristol City’s home form is the 12th best in the Championship,
they have 6 wins, 4 draws and 6 defeats from 16 games.
