Any Previous? Sheffield United v Latics

Latics and Sheffield United have met on 21 occasions down the years, with the Blades having the better of those encounters 10 wins to our 6.

Our first meeting came in the 1981/82 season, the 5th September ‘81, Springfield Park a Division 4 clash, Latics going down 0:1, the same scoreline was repeated in the away fixture 6th months later in March at Bramall Lane, Larry Lloyd’s table topping side slipping up against a main promotion rival, the prolific Rob Edwards scoring the only goal in both games.

Sheffield United went up as Champions that season with Latics also gaining promotion, finishing the campaign off in 3rd place behind Bradford City on goal difference.

Our last meeting with Sheffield United was on the 1st December 2022, a 1:2 defeat at DW Stadium.

Classic Encounter

13 May 2007 – Sheffield United 1:2 Latics

A game not for the faint hearted, final day of the season, to maintain their Premier League status Latics needed a win, for Sheffield United a draw would do, it was hold to your hat time.

Player To Watch – Iliman Ndiaye

Iliman Ndiaye

22 year old Sengal international attacking midfield man, Iliman Ndiaye is a real danger man for the Blades attack.

Ndiaye joined Sheffield United from National League side Boreham Wood in August 2019 and spent a short spell on loan with Hyde United.

With 11 goals and 7 assists from 38 games, Ndiaye is enjoying a fantastic season. A strong, quick, attacking midfielder, he’s been a real handful for defences in the Championship.
