Progress With Unity Podcast #132: Gillingham review, Crewe preview

Excuse me, sir, but I believe you spelled it wrong!

You can always rely on the Progress With Unity CREW to bring the pun dictionaries. Be sure to listen carefully tonight, for many CREWl and cringeworthy half-baked references have been corksCREWEd into the show for no other reason than to sCREW with your head.

Did you know that Crewel is a type of embroidery? See, you wouldn't have known that if you didn't check this post. Whoever said PWU isn't the least bit educational? Well, apart from me...

This week we are back in the studio with Gareth, Adam, Simon, Dan and Barry.

Adam and Simon give us their lowdown on the Gillingham game, poor defending and a lacklustre performance.

Away form versus home form, there is no comparison, we are much better enjoying home comforts.

Transfer speculation, with Kev McNaughton injured and Billy Mckay looking likely to be off there will surely be action in the arrival lounge before Tuesdays 6pm deadline.

Dan's Crewe-cial preview of the weekend clash with against the Alex is excellent, surely we will build on our efforts to turn the DW into a fortress against the Railway Men.

An important announcement for those with a gripe or issues with the club, there is a FAB meeting next Wednesday so get your grumbles emailed to the Latics SLO's

Contents: A sCREWEd up intro (0:00); sick to the Gills: scorchin' Gillingham review including Statman (1:40), 4 points from 4 games (8:00) and right back to the left luggage office (13:00); unbeatable at home (15:30); crosswords and cross words on the Morecambe friendly (20:00); transfer window ins and outs, comings and goings (24:00); next six games – preview (33:20); not-at-all-scripted Crewe preview with Dan (36:00); Barry's FAB stand up show (42:00); favourite era in Wigan Athletic's history? Aussie weather forecast.

Ever wondered what it's like to be a Latics fan in 'Straiya? No? I bet it was the spiders that put you off, wasn't it? Well, now you can have a small taste of the Aussie dream (like the American dream, only with cricket) thanks to Melbourne resident Craig Fillingham, who's been so kind as to share his experiences as an exiled Wiganer Dahnundah.

This podcast was recorded the day after the Gillingham defeat.

Exiled Wiganer Craig Fillingham, who has lived in Melbourne, Australia for the past two years, joined me for a chat about all things Latics, via the miracle that is Skype, surprised that this particular piece of technology has made it all the way down to Victoria! (tongue in cheek).

Craig gives us his low down on the lengths he goes to keeping up to date with the goings on at the club and his 'match day' experience involves him getting up at midnight and staying tuned in to Latics Player until the early hours of the morning.

Craig is a lifelong Latics supporter, originally from Highfield, he also has family connections with the club. We chat about the current season, results so far, expectations and hopes for the future.

Contents: Never lose the accent! (0:00); Latics/sports coverage in Oz (2:00) including frustrations of detachment (6:00); new season, new era (10:00); missing the cup final (17:00); Sharply ambitious? (20:00) Including: you can’t hurry success (28:00)

Ahem. Listen to the end for a rather rude reference that you might like. If you're into that sort of thing, that is.

Well not the start we wanted, nor expected, we take a look back at the Coventry and Bury games.

Can we take the positives? Yes we can, despite two defeats in the opening two games there was much to be happy with, looks like we have recruited well and with Jordan Flores having a very good home debut there is hope that we can have a local lad to be proud of for the first time in a while.

A look ahead to the Doncaster game on Sunday wraps this episode off.

Contents: Meteoric intros (0:00); burgerless Coventry review (1:30) including welcome to League One, love, Scott Duncan (6:30); Bury Teatime Special Review (8:15) including which Leon? (19:00), Milking it (23:00) and Mick's Hospitality Review (28:30); Don 'casting: Donny preview (33:00) with a brief history of walk-in goals (34:30) and contradic- sorry, predictions (39:40); a nod to Scunny (45:00)

Progress With Unity Podcast #129: Coventry preview, season preview

(c)Gremlin

It was a time for change, a time for victory. A time for heroes, a time for cartoonish super-villainy and lottery-appointed scapegoats. A time for lazy headline writers to pull the Outdated Pun Dictionary from the back of their Penguin wrapper-laden desk drawer. A time for optimistic introspection.

It was time for the start of the new domestic season.

And that time, my friends, was... now.

-- Some famous philosopher

(Well, OK, maybe I made all of that up myself. And maybe Wigan Athletic will win the FA Cup, who knows.)
