Latics and Chorley share a great history. Despite not having played the Magpies competitively since the spring of 1978 we have recorded 66 encounters across all competitions.
The first ever meeting between the two clubs in their current forms was at Victory Park back in the 1934/35 season in the 2nd round of the Lancashire Junior Cup, a resounding 1:5 victory for the Latics, the last meeting was also in the same competition, this time in the final, which was held at Springfield Park, 17th April 1978, goals from Peter Houghton and Mickey Worswick saw the Latics take the honours.

FA Cup
Although we have met many times down the years in the FA Cup, this Sunday’s game will be the first time that Wigan Athletic and Chorley FC have met beyond the qualifying rounds, a little bit of history in the making.
Our first meeting in the Cup was in November 1935, a 1:4 away win saw the Latics progress to the 1st round proper where we succumbed to Rotherham at Springfield Park by two goals to one.
Our last meeting in the FA Cup was in September 1969, when following a 1:1 draw at Springfield Park, we went to Chorley and won the game comfortably 2:5.
That season we played nine games in the FA Cup and still went out in the first round, drawing and replaying with both Chorley and Burscough before meeting Port Vale in round one, that tie went to a second replay at Old Trafford after a 1:1 at Springfield Park and a 2:2 at Vale Park, the game was settled in the dying moments of extra time when Vale scored winning the game 1:0.
